From the Courtroom to the Mediation Table: Meet Randy Lambert

When people ask how I became a mediator, the answer is not a single job, case, or moment. It is the result of a career spent helping people navigate conflict, make difficult decisions, and move forward when the path ahead is not always clear.
Before opening Middle Path Mediation Services, I practiced law in Florida for many years, handling civil, family, and criminal matters. I served as lead counsel in more than 100 civil cases and worked through nearly every stage of litigation, including investigation, depositions, motion practice, negotiations, hearings, mediations, and trial. I also represented people facing criminal charges ranging from misdemeanors to homicide.
Those experiences taught me that every dispute has more than a legal dimension. Behind the pleadings and legal arguments are people dealing with stress, uncertainty, financial concerns, damaged relationships, and decisions that can affect their lives for years. An effective mediator must understand the law and the litigation process, but also know how to listen carefully, identify what is truly driving the conflict, and help people evaluate their options realistically.
My work as a Florida Supreme Court certified civil and family mediator has allowed me to bring those lessons to the mediation table. I mediate civil and family disputes, including matters for Florida's Department of Financial Services. In every case, my goal is to create a productive environment where participants feel heard, attorneys can candidly assess strengths and risks, and everyone can explore practical solutions.
My background as an educator also shapes my approach. I have designed and taught Florida Bar-sanctioned continuing legal education courses on litigation, trial advocacy, and procedural rules. I have presented on criminal justice and the legal process through the Florida Bar Speakers Bureau, and I have supervised and mentored attorneys and paralegals in trial preparation. Teaching has reinforced the importance of communicating clearly, asking thoughtful questions, and making complicated issues understandable without talking down to anyone.
Long before I became an attorney, I spent eight years on active duty in the U.S. Army and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Military service taught me discipline, preparation, adaptability, and how to remain calm when circumstances are difficult or uncertain. It also taught me the value of teamwork and the importance of understanding different perspectives before making consequential decisions. Those lessons continue to guide my work today.
I am also a published legal writer and policy advocate. My work has addressed disability rights, criminal justice, sentencing reform, and clemency. Researching and writing about these issues has strengthened my ability to analyze complex problems, recognize competing interests, and look beyond entrenched positions.
All of these experiences - soldier, attorney, advocate, teacher, writer, and business owner - have shaped the mediator I am today. I understand litigation, but I also understand that mediation is about helping people regain some control, communicate more effectively, and determine whether there is a workable path forward.
That is the purpose of Middle Path Mediation Services: thoughtful preparation, respectful dialogue, practical problem-solving, and a steady hand when conflict feels overwhelming.
